Take action and ask for the things you need

Recently a client, who is also in receipt of Personal Independent Payment (PIP), contacted me to say she has not heard from the DWP regarding her PIP claim in November 2021.

Last night this client sobbed for four hours. She suffers from severe anxiety, and was sure she had not been awarded PIP again.

The local Council had contacted this client to say her Blue Badge was about to expire and please could they have evidence of her enhanced rate of PIP. This was the trigger for her meltdown.

This morning the client telephoned the Department for Works and Pensions (DWP), and she finally got through after a two-hour wait.

I think she did so well to manage to wait for that amount of time. This is why I always advise clients to have a book to read when making such telephone calls, as waiting without doing anything makes the wait seem even longer.

The adviser assured my client that her award had been put through for another year, but the DWP are not sending letters out to this effect. This is not acceptable.

My client asked for a letter, as she has to have something to show the Council. So the advisor kindly informed her that he would send one, and she will now be able to renew her Blue Badge.

If you find yourself unable to make the telephone call to the DWP to ask for your PIP award letter please call me at One Stop Advocacy on 07464 106 903.
