Forced changes to electricity supply services

Scottish Power sent fitters to put in a smart meter at a vulnerable, elderly person’s house.

This person, now a client, had Economy 7 heating on a timer. The engineers took away the timer, despite the client asking them not to.

From when the smart meter was installed, there was a problem with the Economy 7 heating.

The Economy 7 does work, but it has been wired to the 24-hour supply, so it is on for 24 hours. The heaters used to be on for 7 hours at night, coming on and going off by the time switch. Now there is no control for the heaters.

My client is very worried about his bills. He is on a fixed pension, so he is not putting the heating on as it comes on for 24 hours and he is terrified he will not be able to pay his electricity bill.

He is getting up at 2.30am to turn the Economy 7 on, and then getting up again at 6.30am to turn it off. This is having a terrible impact on his health.

I contacted Scottish Power on my client’s behalf, but they would not help.

I then went to the Ombudsman, who ordered an engineer to visit the client and put in a timer switch, and also to give my client a payment and a letter of apology.

Despite the Ombudsman’s ruling, over a year ago, Scottish Power have still not made the payment or sent the letter of apology. Sadly, it seems that they do not care about their customers.
